Juggling with two courses online which are so totally unrelated and switching from one mindframe to another is not easy. Who knows in this way different synapses and areas of the brain will be activated . At my age this is vital. So here I am out of the box of variables and accountable “taylored” algorithms for measuring productivity to engage in tinkering to produce a storytelling exercise for Jim Groom’s ds106 course.

Lisa Lane made an excellent post summarizing and reacting both to Professor Gardner Campbell’s short article titled “A Personal Cyberinfrastructure and his thought-provoking presentation at the 2009 Open Education Conference called “No More Digital Facelifts: Thinking the Unthinkable About Open Educational Experiences”, which Tom Woodward brilliantly remixed in audio.

My first story is very simple and it remixes photos I took when I traveled to Buenos Aires last April and visited an adorable design shop full of fun household objects, among which Etelvina, who was made into the main character of my story.

The movie is too linear for my taste and not a very daring exercise in the use of new tools. However, I wanted to use what I had at hand and also upload it to my server instead of having it in some bizarre locked format somewhere else. Photos and text were put on a ppt and converted to jpgs. The song Off the Hook by CSS (a Brazilian band) was taken from their video on YouTube, converted into mp3 with Miro Video Converter, edited in Audacity and exported again to mp3. The whole lot was thrown into iMovie and exported saved as m4v and converted into mp4 with Miro. It was uploaded through my CPannel to my server at Joyent. I have just noticed I have not added a CC License (BY/SA/NC) to it so will re-do it this weekend. Enjoy! etelvina (mp4)

Awakening The Heroes Within

Through Stephen Downes I got this tip to Make Internet TV, which comes in handy as I am planning to have a group of students produce their own hero journeys using one of Carol Pearson’s heroic archetypes.

Planning, writing , filming and performing their own stories may prove a stimulating quest for all of us. I wonder what kind of dragon I will have to slay to succeed in my task and whether I will succomb to my fear. The reward for all of us, if we get to the end, will be to post the result on Mojiti and have you interact and comment on them.

Update on May 4th: I have opened a wiki to bring together all the ideas.

While loading my photos from London to Flickr, I surfed toLeigh´s wiki, clicked on Graham Wegner, who is teaching generation Z. I eyeballed his Authentic Identity, laughed at the identification with Hugh McLeod’s cartoon, which I repost here (so you do not have to click on yet another link) because this is what prompted me to write this sequence of twitters

Still waiting for pics to upload, I scrolled down to find a link to Chris Harbeck, who is doing many interesting things, among which referring to Lesley Fryer, who is moving at the speed of creativity warning educators to pay attention to the natives .

Ouf, better have a shower now and set out for a real exploration walk around Barcelona. My last day here! Flying back to Sao Paulo tomorrow.

Connect is the buzz word at the moment.
It is what is going to be discussed during the conference organized by Georges Siemens on Connectivism starting tomorrow at the University of Manitoba

It is also the theme (ConNECT – Conversations about Networking, Education, Communities and Technology) of the WiAOC (Webheads in Action Online Convergence) happening from May 17th to 19th.

And the title of one of the many excellent ads by South African mobile company CellC. The frisbee game illustrates networking perfectly. How are you connecting?

From Clarence Fisher (Remote Access) through Stephen Downes (Old Daily), a wonderful 20-minute videocast (70 zipped mb to download) from TED (Technology Education Design) featuring Sir Ken Robinson. This is an inspired presentation peppered with witty personal anecdotes illustrating kids’ imagination and ingenuity and how the public school system today should encourage and promote creativity, risk-taking and innovation instead of making everyone conform to the same educational academic mold.

Adding (July 31st) another video, which provides variation on the same theme, but in the darkest English black humour. Rowan Atkinson in Fatal Beatings.
